Halls Gap, Victoria

If you want to experience the Grampians and all they have to offer, I suggest you base yourself in Halls Gap. Basically in the middle of the park it is a great little town that offers alot.

The town is set at the base of the wonderland mountain range and has many walking trails starting at various locations through the town, but why not first start with the town.

The Halls Gap Caravan Park is an experience in itself. The grounds are very nicely looked after and it is in the heart of the town. The thing that really got me though was the kangaroos, wallabies and koalas that just wonder around the park. Kangaroos and wallabies, not so interesting because you can see them everywhere, but this was the first place that i experienced a number of koalas living quite happily. I used to go to the grampians every year when i was a kid and saw a koala walking through the park every year without fail. There is also a range of other accomadation to suit every taste.

The town has cafes, gift shops and an award winning restaurant. The Brambuk Cultural Centre is also very interesting and worth a look, it is a great place to learn a bit of the history and chat with some of the park rangers as to the best walks.
